Government Relations

Welcome to the Government Relations link on the KEC website. I'm Dave Holthaus, Vice President of Government Relations at KEC.

Redistricting took place in 2012 resulting in more than 60 new Kansas Legislators.  The legislative districts change on a 10 year cycle to allow for more accurate representation based on population fluctuations.  The rural areas are losing representation accordingly.  When the 2012 legislature was not able to agree on new legislative maps of representation the court was given the charge and finalized the process by supplying “THE” map, which is the reason for 60 new legislators in 2013.

KEC looks forward to the challenge of meeting and growing relationships with these new citizen legislators.  It is an opportunity for us to share the cooperative business model and help educate and provide constituent services to the legislators.

Melissa Doeblin, J.D., joined KEC as the Manager of Government Relations and will be working diligently with me at the capitol.  We take very seriously our charge to accurately present legislators the cooperative position on issues in order to provide you reliable, low cost clean energy alternatives.

As legislators change, so too do changes in laws, staff and procedures. We want you to be aware of the updates in a timely and accurate manner. Please review the links listed on the left and contact Melissa or me with your concerns.
